Have you met Emily Shanahan?

On July 13, 2010, Emily took ownership of a ChiliPad to help her regulate her body temperature at night. Prior to ChiliPad technology in her life, she was having skin problems because of the temperature of her body while she slept. Even in the winter months, Emily found herself overheating to an extreme degree.

She took ownership of another ChiliPad unit this July. Here’s what Emily and her family sent us in the mail:

Such a sweet family! (The original picture had a much higher quality than this scanned version.)

Emily truly is an inspiration to us here at ChiliPad. If you have time, please please please watch her video. It will change the way you view your life. The link is right here:

Now that she’s accomplished so much and is able to get some much-needed rest at night, Emily is ready to continue her life’s journey. She will be pursuing her Master’s Degree at Anderson University in Online Master of Arts in Christian Ministries with a concentration in Non-Profit Organization Management. She plans to develop a non-profit organization for the “differently enabled.”

Aromatherapy for the Restless

According to ApartmentTherapy.com, there are certain scents that help you relax and fall asleep. Some of these mentioned are: Lavender, Chamomile, Bergamot, Jasmine, Rose, and Sandalwood.

People choose to utilize these as a pillow mist, wrist spray, candles, or incense.

Aside from the scent itself, the act of inhaling and deep breathing also helps the body relax and fall asleep faster.

While aromatherapy isn’t a fully solid theory in the scientific world, it’s definitely worth a shot. What’s the worse that can happen? You and your room smell better?

Absolute Dark

In middle school, I learned of a temperature called “Absolute Zero.” Apparently, it’s so cold that everything on a molecular level comes to a standstill. In fact, Absolute Zero is so cold that scientists haven’t even reached it yet!

Introducing a concept I invented all on my own: Absolute Dark.

According to most sleep experts, people sleep best in the darkest room possible. Your alarm clock, sunlight, and TV’s produce light that can stimulate your brain and keep you awake. So turn the alarm clock away from you, get some thick light-proof curtains, and turn off that TV so you can get as close to Absolute Dark as possible!

See-through curtains like this won’t work when you fight the light:

And they don’t hide cats that well either 😉

Of course, this blog excludes those of us who are paranoid of the dark (like me!). I don’t mind the light from my alarm clock 🙂

If you found something great…

If you found something great, you would share it right? It’s like telling people about the mega-sale at a local boutique, or flaunting your favorite brand, or Instagram-Tweeting the outcome of a daring new recipe you succeeded at. This lovely mixture between enlightening friends to your recently discovered brilliancy and bragging to them is a sought-after relief for our pent-up product excitement.

This is the exact feeling Joshua needed to share after receiving his new ChiliPad. Joshua was the victim of nightsweats for over a decade. He was “doubting its advertised ability,” but his need for cool comfort overrode the broad skepticism he felt toward the product. He had already exhausted innumerable unrewarding attempts at keeping cool. He decided it was worth giving it a shot. After receiving his new ChiliPad and setting it up, his lack of confidence in the product begged him to test its temperature-changing abilities out at a polar-level 50 degrees! Somewhere in the middle of the night, this man who has always been plagued by nightsweats woke up freezing. While being cold isn’t normally pleasant, Joshua knew this was the beginning of a beautiful relationship with his bed. Since then, Joshua has found his happily-ever-after temperature and flouted the nightsweats.

“Cooler than the flipside of my pillow…”

Alright, you guys love the ChiliPad. And there’s more Chili-Awesomeness to share…

Have you ever heard the phrase “you’re cooler than the flip side of my pillow”? Well, Chili Technology has torn that phrase apart recently with our pillows.

Now, BOTH sides are cool like the flip side because it’s a pillow with cooling gel cells. Also, our dreamy Cloud pillows are made with special coconut memory foam that’s designed with an open-cell structure that doesn’t hold as much heat.

If you’re a hot-headed individual, this pillow is for you!

“Can’t sleep without it!”

Despite being just a few months away from my 20th birthday, I still have a “blankie.” More specifically, it’s a quilt made by a great aunt, or something like that. It’s soft and it’s getting all these little rips in it, but I still love it. I sleep like a baby with it.

A picture of my quilt and I in Hawaii!

I take it with me whenever I won’t be sleeping in my own bed. I dragged it all the way from my home in NC to the Philippines, on the exact other side of the world, for a 7 week excursion. It spent a month in Hawaii with me a couple weeks ago… A week in Vegas… A cruise to the Bahamas… It’s gone to Myrtle Beach with me multiple times. Tennessee. Virginia. The San Francisco Airport. And, of course, it’s been with me all freshman year at High Point University. Needless to say, it’s well traveled. It doesn’t matter how “foreign” the bed is, I sleep just the same with my quilt.

A lot of people feel this way about the ChiliPad. They can always depend on a good night’s sleep when it’s working its magic. But don’t let me relay the news, here’s what they say:

I never want this to break down. I would not know how to sleep without it. My poodle says he loves it too. His side is so cool.. – Julie R.

This is the best thing I ever bought. It is used every night and is priceless. I didn’t know how much better I sleep till I forgot to turn it on one night and woke up in the middle of the night burning. – Kyle L.

My half of the bed is in the shop. I miss my chilipad!!!!! – Mary W.

I woke up middle of the night sweating and realized I forgot to turn it on! I wondered if it was making that much of a difference and apparently it was! – Linda S.

Some die-hard owners/fans/evangelists of the ChiliPad even travel with it. That’s how much they depend on a ChiliPad for that perfect night’s sleep.

25% of Couples Don’t Sleep Together

Did you know that about 25% of couples don’t sleep together in the same bed?

There are several celebrity couples that are known to sleep in different beds, including: Scott Disick And Kourtney Kardashian, Ryan O’Neal And Farrah Fawcett, Kevin Jonas And Danielle Deleasa, and the recently divorced Katie Holmes And Tom Cruise.

This can be due to a number of reasons like loud snoring, excessive movement, or sleep walking and talking. One of the biggest reasons is different sleep temperature preferences. One likes it nice and toasty, while the other likes to see their breath crystalizing in the air in front of them. The end result is two separate beds in two separate rooms.

ChiliPad is here to save the day!

The ChiliPad can come as a dual-zone mattress pad, which allows couples to customize their half of the bed. Technology is a wonderful thing, and Chili Technology is helping couples everywhere sleep comfortably with each other.

Here’s a testimonial from Dr. Margueritte Gilkey – McDonald,NC:

“My hot flashes started about 5 years before menopause. I tried everything…. I was sweating and my husband freezing. But other than Estrogen treatments (with the risk of serious side effects) nothing was beating my hot flashes until ChiliPad™. Now both my husband and I can sleep comfortably. Join me in this drug free approach to comfort.”

Science is Backing “Beauty Sleep”

Beauty sleep is officially a concept in the science world! Researchers in Sweden conducted a survey where volunteers were photographed after 8 hours of sleep, then again after being awake for 31 hours.

The results:

“Sleep deprived people are perceived as less attractive.”

To back this up, get a mental image of yourself at its hottest. Did you look sleepy? Of course you didn’t! Sleep is obviously necessary for function, and it’s also necessary for aesthetic purposes.

Now ask yourself: do you get enough sleep at night? If your dark circles, red eyes, and yawning mouth answer “no,” then maybe it’s about time you try a ChiliPad. Sleeping at your ideal temperature will help you get a deep, restorative sleep that will have you waking up the next morning feeling good with a mega-watt smile like your favorite Disney character.

…Or this Bull Dog.

In conjunction with the last blog…

In conjunction with the last blog, where I took catnaps on cold floors when I didn’t feel the best, this blog is about what happens when I get chills.

Who takes hot showers when they feel cold? This girl does. And I know a few of you do too. It doesn’t matter if it’s the third shower of your day, the purpose isn’t to get clean, it’s to get warm.

And the feeling is delicious.

Even if you’re not the type who showers for warmth, who has experienced this: That cold winter morning when you just rolled out of bed and tripped your sleepy, cold self into the shower. And once you feel that steamy water trickle down your back, you’re content to just stand there all morning.

The ChiliPad is the exact same thing! Except that wonderful warm water isn’t showering down upon you, it’s flowing right under you through silicone tubes.

It doesn’t matter if you keep it cool or like it hot, the ChiliPad hits the spot 😉

Catnaps on Cold Floors

I love tiled floors. Yes, they’re beautiful. Yes, they’re also easy to clean. But I like them because they make a great place to snooze when you’re feeling sick. The cold feeling that chills your feet in the wintertime is unfortunate, but when you’re under the weather, it’s great to cuddle with!

So here’s “Doctor” Melia’s remedy for when you don’t feel the best.

  • Stomachache? Take a Tums and lay on your stomach on the floor.
  • Headache? Take a Tylenol and make sure your temple is touching the floor.
  • Feeling dizzy? You should be on the floor anyway. Gravity is not your friend right now.
  • Fever? This one’s obvious.

Lying out on my bathroom floor is also a great option after some time outside on a summer day. And Lord knows it’s been hot here in NC lately…

This is the same idea behind the ChiliPad. It does heat, but what most people like is the cooling feature. It can be just as lovely as catnaps on cold floors, but a million times more comfortable. It cools using circulating water, not electricity (or ceramic!). Aside from using it to sleep at night, it works wonders for when you don’t feel good.

Happy napping,

Melia
