Let’s admit it…

Let’s admit it, the human brain is smart. (Well, most of them are…) It handles all the little details of your body while managing to remember all those grand moments in your life. Yet despite this brilliancy, it’s still possible to trick it and manipulate it.

Things were fine and dandy for the cavemen who operated solely on the sun’s schedule, but along came today’s modern marvels. Countless studies have shown that exposure to light keeps your brain awake.

Ask yourself if you do any of these things before bed:

  • Watch TV
  • Get on your laptop
  • Text or browse the Internet from your cell phone
  • Play games or read on an iPad

If your answer was yes to any (or all… guilty as charged) of those, it may be affecting the quality of your sleep. Your brilliant mind has fallen victim to the idea of “sunlight” coming from the screen, which tells it that bedtime is still at least a few hours away.

Even when all the lights finally shut off at the end of your long day, do you find yourself still wide awake? It’s because your brain believes your body is currently residing at 11AM instead of 11PM.

The best advice is to dim lights and avoid backlit screens beginning at one hour before bedtime.

…Unless of course you’re reading my blog šŸ˜‰ Read it anytime. I wouldn’t hate it.
